June 2015 - Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Crimea's Prosecutor General Natalia Poklonskaya with the rank of Judicial Counsellor 3 Class.
This military rank is similar to that of Major General. Before that Natalia Poklonskaya served as a Senior Counsellor of Justice, which is equivalent to the rank of colonel.
Natalia Poklonskaya in the 2016 elections possibly may run for the Duma, the Russian parliament.
Poklonskaya was appointed to the office she now holds in May 2014 by Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov, who came to the power after Russia annexed the peninsula from Ukraine. Poklonskaya, 35, rose to global prominence during the turbulent secession of Crimea from Ukraine and reunification with Russia. At a media conference she spoke up for rebellious local authorities, denounced the armed coup in Kiev and declared Crimea’s refusal to submit to the new Ukrainian authorities. Her harsh words and stern expression contrasted greatly with her cute blond appearance and unusual voice, sparking an instant internet meme.
The young, attractive Poklonskaya became an Internet sensation literally within few days. Lots of artistic drawings of the prosecutor as an anime character spread across the world. She has often been referred to in the media as "Nyasha," meaning sweetheart or darling.
In the beginning of 2015 Natalia shortened the hair and began to use a darker lipstick, so now she looks older and stricter.
